"Minty" - The death of an icon

First licensed on plate K876 XRX by Porsche UK Reading, Minty underwent nearly a month of UK Press Launch commitments.  On June 3rd she joined the long list of cars to carry the 911 HUL ‘Turbo plate’ for her debut at the Earls Court Motor Show, London (21-31st/10/’93). I recall the memory of my first glimpse of Minty at 25yrs of age; drained of her fluids and hung on a stainless steel fabrication that looked not dissimilar to the Brooklands banking.  From the curved walkway above the distinctly Zermatt silver theme could be easily viewed, the range was made up of the incoming 993 with Minty, or “the last of the wind one’s” following up the rear.

It’s commonly written that there were only 42 right hand drive 3.6 Turbo’s to come into the UK during the production run in ’93 & ’94 and of this number it is thought only two were Mint Green, (the second being sold from Glenvargill’s Glasgow, the whereabouts of which is today uncertain). 

As Minty’s seventh recorded owner and someone who has spent many years trying to achieve his dream of one day owning ‘the ‘93 show car’, you can imagine it is not easy to have to write the following…. click here to continue.
